brown patches in fescue lawn

Post by vawaves » Tue Aug 02, 2011 10:18 pm

My fescue lawn is currently being invaded by brown patches. It looks like the grass is dead in these areas.

This is most likely a fungal disease but it is possible that you are seeing damage from grubs feeding on the roots of your grass. If it is grubs, you will be able to peel the grass up easily - it will detach from the roots with very little effort. If you have grubs, you can apply Bayer Advanced 24 Hour Grub Killer Plus. This can be done right now according to the label directions.

If you find it is not grubs, it may be one of a number of fungal diseases that attacks turfgrass. Bonide Infuse is a broad spectrum fungicide that can be sprayed on your lawn according to the label directions to control fungal diseases. There is a convenient ready to spray formulation the fits on the end of your hose. Always read and follow the label directions. It is important to keep your grass healthy by mowing high (3") and watering deeply every 10 days or so. Watering too often can lead to disease problems.
