Nandina

My 15 year old Nandinas are experiencing something never seen before. Branches are losing leaves looking like something clipped off the ends of the small branch growth. Is it a disease or bird? No indication it is deer. Will they leaf out in the spring or are they gone? Thanks.

Frost damage to hydrangea

The late frost days recently completely killed all the new leaf growth on the stems and from the base of my hydrangeas. What should I do? Also, all the new tips of growth on my Burford holly are dead (black). Will growth resume when the days warm up?

Yellow Bellied Sapsuckers

These birds have killed several of my 3-8 year old trees--esp. Nelly Stevens -- and have pecked holes in Magnolias, dogwoods, etc. How do I prevent them from killing my trees. Thanks.

Pruning October Glory Maple

I would like to take off the lower branches of this tree of about 20 feet in height. Is when it is dormant the best time?

Dwarf Crepe Myrtles

I planted some dwarf crepe myrtles over 8 years ago (Pocomoke??). They have never bloomed. I transplanted them to a sunnier location (about 6 hours), fertilized them, and pruned them in early spring but still no blooms. If I don't have a location with more sun, do I give them away? Thanks. Powhatan,...

Non-blooming daffodils

I have a bed of Breck's white daffodils that have bloomed in the past. This year I had prolific foliage but no blooms. I did not fertilize this spring nor in the fall. Is it a matter of fertilization or the cold winter? I had other daffodils that did bloom. Do I need to divide them? :Powhatan, VA.

Virginia cedars

It seems that many of my wild Virginia red cedars have brown foliage -- this winter and spring. Is this just winter kill or is there a disease attacking these trees?

Holes in my Otto Luyken leaves

Powhatan, VA Every year I get holes in the leaves of my Otto Luykens. Usually new growth in the spring takes care of it. But this year the damage this fall is fairly extensive with some leaf die back. I assume it is a disease. What product should I use to curtail this condition and when should I app...

Non-Blooming Dwarf Crepe Myrtles

I planted several dwarf crepe myrtles years ago and they have never, ever bloomed. I even transpanted them several years ago with no results. They get about 5-6 hours of mid-day sun every day. What can I do? Thanks.
